My crochet journey started roughly 4-5 years ago. I picked it up in 2019-2020, however it didn’t stick until the height of COVID in 2021. It took me a while to combat the Imposter Syndrome that prevented me from exploring it sooner. When I did though, I found a comfort in being able to make my own plushies and trinkets. The ability to create whatever I wanted became my motivation for learning. Eventually, I would expand out from just making amigurumi to attempting cardigans and blankets as well.
Present day, I believe I have reached what some in the crochet community would consider the “just because you can make something doesn’t mean you should” phase. When I take on projects, it usually either stems from a curiosity to see if I could pull something off, or from thinking it would be neat or funny to make. Are they always good ideas? No (many of them aren’t). Doesn’t stop me from trying, though.
In terms of skill level, I’d place myself somewhere between Intermediate and Experienced (though that may be generous; there are many things I am yet to learn). Some projects, especially the ones that combine crochet and sewing, still intimidate me. By taking on more and more challenging projects though, I know I can further build on my skillset, and stretch the limits of what I am capable of.
That, and making the can/should statement even more applicable would be really funny.
